- this willow species is bitter and unpalatable to deer, livestock, and rabbits
- large and showy silver catkins in early spring before the leaves
- light green to brown stems dry to a light brown color
- straight and very slender rods are lighter colored than other purpureas
- this vigorous male cultivar is great as a showy hedge or deer screen
- dense root mass is very useful for riverbank erosion control
- established plants can produce 6-9’ rods every year when coppiced
