- bright red catkins in early spring
- upright, compact, and slow growing
- deciduous shrub to 6-12 feet high and 4-6 feet wide
- narrow bluish green leaves tend to grow in pairs or whorls
- this species holds its green color well into the fall, longer than most willows
- naturally grows long, very flexible rods that sway nicely in a breeze
- produces long thin rods when coppiced; branches are yellow in winter
