Chaenomeles speciosa 'Toyo Nishiki' - Multicolored Flowering Quince

- deciduous thorny flowering and fruiting shrub
- produces a showy mix of red, pink, and white single flowers on the same bush!
- 1.5" blooms appear on bare branches in early spring
- newly emerging leaves make a nice backdrop to the colorful display
- hard yellowish-green to red 2.5" fruit ripens in autumn
- fragrant fruit is edible, but not generally suitable for fresh eating; can be used in preserves and jellies
- growth is thorny and twiggy, a good candidate for bonsai
- good for hedge and border applications
- plants bloom on old wood, so prune to shape right after flowering and avoid heavy pruning
- shrub may spread by root suckers
- cut branches can be forced for winter bloom
- great in full sun to part shade; flowers best in full sun
- reaches 8 feet tall by 6-8 feet wide
- grows in zones 5-9

- ships bareroot, wrapped in a soil-less medium to keep the roots damp
- ships in cool spring, fall, or winter seasons; not during summer
