Chaenomeles speciosa 'Falconnet Charlet' - Double Salmon Flowering Quince

- hardy deciduous compact flowering and fruiting shrub
- salmon double flowers in early spring
- newly emerged leaves make a nice backdrop to the colorful display
- blooms may be up to 2 inches wide
- hard yellowish-green to red 2.5" fruit ripens in autumn
- fragrant fruit is edible, but not generally suitable for fresh eating; can be used in preserves and jellies
- unlike others' descriptions of this plant, stems on my specimen are completely or almost thornless
- good for hedge and border applications
- plants bloom on old wood, so prune to shape right after flowering and avoid heavy pruning
- shrub may spread by root suckers
- cut branches can be forced for winter bloom
- great in full sun to part shade; flowers best in full sun
- reaches 5-6 feet tall by 8-10 feet wide
- grows in zones 5-9

- ships bareroot, wrapped in a soil-less medium to keep the roots damp
- ships in cool spring, fall, or winter seasons; not during summer
